The macrolepidoptera fauna of the kottenforst west germany and its development since 1890

, : The macrolepidoptera fauna of the kottenforst west germany and its development since 1890. Decheniana 139: 253-288

In the Kottenforst near Bonn 630 species of Macrolepidoptera were proved to exist either by intensive day-, light- and bait-obsevations, especially in 1983 and 1984, or by evaluation of existing museum- and private collections. By separate evaluation of three periods (before 1960, 1960-1980 and since 1980) it was possible to show the development of the fauna of Macrolepidoptera since the end of the last century. Only 32 species of butterflies could be found since 1980, whereas 66 species were shown before 1960. With modern light catching methods since 1980 more moths could be found than in earlier periods, but there is a significant loss in species quality (number of Red List species). During the investigation in 1983 emphasis was put on quantitative data to show the results of the light catch-evenings and the dynamic of abundance. Furthermore detailed flight diagrams of a few species are figured.
