The magnetic epoch 6 carbon shift a change in the oceans carbon 13 carbon 12 ratio 6.2 million years ago

, : The magnetic epoch 6 carbon shift a change in the oceans carbon 13 carbon 12 ratio 6.2 million years ago. Marine Micropaleontology 5(2): 185-203

Tropical Indian Ocean planktonic and benthic foraminifera have 13C/12C ratios which change abruptly within Magetic Epoch 6 about 6.2 million yr ago. All species analyzed in the Late Miocene section of DSDP (Deep Sea Drilling Project) Site 238 show a shift towards lighter values of.delta. 13C by about 0.8.permill. The O isotope signal indicates that the pre-shift period is climatically quiet while the post-shift period has strong fluctuations.
