, : The main chemical components of the essential oil from rosa rugosa. Acta Botanica Sinica 27(5): 510-515

The plant of Rosa rugosa Thunb. now is cultivated widely in northern China and other places is characterized as Rosa rugosa cv 'Plena' with violet-red flowers. The essential oil extracted by steam distillation, from its flower is a famous fragrance. The flower can be used as medicine and food. The chemical components of this essential oil have been determined by chromatography, IR, GC-MS and other methods. Thirty components have been identified, such as: .beta.-citronellol, geraniol, geraniol acetate, citronellyl acetate, methyl eugenol, linalool etc. Their contents in the oil have been determined also. The chemical components of absolute oil have been determined by GC-MS. All these results can be used to compare with that of Rosa damascena Mill from Bulgarian 'Valley of rose' and other Rosa sp.
