The metabolism of acetylene compounds part 7 distribution and degradation of 9 octa decenoic acid in rats a contribution to the alpha oxidation of the carbon chain/
Octadec-9-ynoic acid (stearolic acid) fed to rats leads to the metabolic excretion of 6 dicarboxylic acids with retained triple bond. The main metabolic steps are .omega.-, .beta.- and presumably .alpha.-oxidation. Feeding of 14C-stearolic acid proves that the .alpha.-oxidative step involves the methyl end of the original acid. This acid is incorporated partially in the body lipids. To a substantial degree it is totally oxidized and expired as 14C-CO2.
