The method of comparison for analyzing mechanisms of chromosomal movement during mitosis

The validity of the method of comparison for analysing the problem of chromosomal movement in mitosis has been reviewed. The evaluation of enormous data on the division of lower eukaryotes, summarized during the last 10-15 years, made us give up the method of comparison of similar structures and processes according to their homology, i.e. the principal traditional for classical morphology, and to pass to comparison using another principal .sbd. that of functional analogy. In other words, to analyse functionally analogous structures and processes within the vast range of objects irrespective of their phylogenetical relations .sbd. distant or closely related. The fruitfulness of the comparative method when using principle of functional analogy as an independent working tool is emphasized for analysing the chromosomal movement in mitosis.
