The multi component nature of teratoma cell adhesion factor

The multicomponent nature of teratoma [mouse] cell adhesion factor was demonstrated. Fractionation of crude ascites fluid on a DEAE cellulose ion exchange column showed 2 or more components are involved in teratoma adhesion factor (TAF) activity. Glycoproteins (or proteoglycans) in fractionated ascites fluid were localized in polyacrylamide gels. The possible role of these sugar-containing molecules in teratoma cell adhesion and current hypotheses on the mechanism of carbohydrate involvement in intercellular adhesion are discussed.
