The newt euproctus asper duges in the eastern pyrenees france geographical distribution and sexual cycle at low altitude

Vie et Milieu 37(2): 133-138

New sampling stations of the newt Euproctus asper in the eastern Pyrenees extend the geographical limit toward the East. They establish the junction between the central zone and two places which were found twenty years ago. Compared with those of middle and high altitude, the sexual cycle of Euproctus presents an important shift at the lowest known altitude on the French territory (tributary of Mondony, 350 m). The peculiarities of this shift are discussed in relation with two factors: the temperature and the flow rate of water.
