, : The prevalence of antibody to hepatitis a virus in different age groups of hokkaido japan inhabitants. Hokkaido Journal of Medical Science 57(1): 101-104

Serum specimens drawn at random from Hokkaido [Japan] inhabitants were tested for antibody to the hepatitis A virus(anti-HAV) by radioimmunoassay. The prevalence in different age groups was as follows: cord blood and newborn infants 44.4%, < 1 yr 0%, 1-9 yr 5.3%, 10-19 yr 0%, 20-29 yr 9.1%, 30-39 yr 80%, 40-49 yr 90% and > 50 yr 100%. This survey comfirmed that antibody against HAV could pass through the placenta and this virus must have been very common in the 1950's in Hokkaido.
