The prevention of secondary caries and gingivitis by fillings

A cross-sectional survey was made to estimate relationships between the rate of secondary caries and the position of cervical cavity wall against gingival margin. The secondary caries rate was higher, when the cervical cavity wall was below gingival margin. Therefore from a periodontal and caries prophylactic point of view the extension of cavity should not be performed in the gingival direction.
