The primary effect of carcinogens on lactate dehydrogenase isozyme composition in rat kidneys
The kidney carcinogen dimethylnitrosamine (DMNA) and the hepatospecific carcinogen 4-dimethylaminoazobenzene (DAB) induced similar changes in the lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) isoenzyme composition of the rat kidney involving the increase in the relative activity of isozymes composed predominantly of M subunits. The effect was detected between the 1st and the 11th days after a single i.p. injection of either carcinogen. Non-carcinogenic 4-diethylaminoazobenzene was practically uneffective. The difference between DMNA and DAB effects was shown with the help of dispersion analysis of LDH spectra parameters. The course and intensity of the primary effect of carcinogens apparently do not reflect their tissue specificity.
