Six plant growth regulators were screened to determine their effects on the growth of hypocotyl and roots of mung bean sprouts. P-chlorophenoxy acetic acid was the most effective in restricting root growth. "Rootless" mung bean sprouts could be produced using p-chlorophenoxy acetic acid as a main growth regulator and the yield and quality of "rootless" bean sprouts could be obtained by additional application of GA, kinetin and Ethrel (2-chloroethyl) phosphonic acid. [The other growth regulators tested were 2,4-D, IAA and o-chlorophenoxyacetic acid].
