The proportion of solid volume to timber volume of norway spruce

A sample of Norway spruce timber is investigated with regard to the proportion of solid volume to timber volume under bark. The solid volume is calculated using functions for the volume of standing trees, while the timber volume is found by log measurement. Both volumes are overestimated in proportion to section volume by 1.8 and 0.8% respectively. The solid volume for this timber sample is accordingly 1% greater than the timber volume. The difference would probably increase using other measurement methods.
