An adaptation of a gentamicin fluorometric assay method was used to test other aminoglycosidic antibiotics (amikacin, kanamycin, streptomycin, neomycin and sisomicin) in order to perform the quantitative analysis of these active principles in pharmaceutical preparations (injectable solutions, powder for injection and ointment). The method is based on the formation of highly fluorescence compounds derivated from the reaction between primary or secondary amines and 7-chloro-4-nitrobenzo-2-oxa-1,3-diazole (NBD chloride). Satisfactory results were not obtained because it was possible to draw calibration curves with the necessary characteristics, although the aminoglycosidic antibiotics studied, theoretically, form fluorescent compounds in the reaction with NBD chloride.
