The entropy of short-term memory storage capacity is rate-limiting for cognitive functions. This entropy can also be calculated by using the formula for quantum particles (bosons), in which case memory span becomes the quantum number. High IQ subjects with higher quantum numbers exhibit a greater complexity of the EEG, in such a way reflecting a more effective brain energy metabolism. Consequently, cerebral glucose metabolism rate and IQ have been found highly correlated.
