The relationship between liver injury and mono amine oxidase part 3 effect of d penicillamine on activity of mono amine oxidase

The effects of D-penicillamine (D-pen) in CCl4-induced experimental chronic liver diseases in rats were studied from trends in serum and intraheptic MAO, with simultaneous histological observations. The activity of MAO in serum and soluble liver fragments that rose, when CCl4 was exclusively injected, in parallel with liver fibroplasia, remarkably dropped when D-pen was given in combination. The degree was lower than the combined use of AAN [aminoacetonitrile] and CCl4 made for comparison. Morphologically liver fibroplasia was apparently controlled by the combined use of D-pen and CCl4, with remarkable reductions in liver hydroxyproline. The degree was nearly equal to the AAN/CCl4 combination. There would probably be some difference in liver fibroplasia control functions between D-pen and AAN.
