General formulae for calculating the sex ratio, generation duration, ratio of hatched insects, index of reproduction, mortality of nymphs, reproductive rate and the number of females produced during a generation are presented. By using those formulae the reproduction rate between insects with fertilized and parthenogenetic eggs, respectively, can be compared in order to plan the size of laboratory populations and estimate the future size of natural populations. An example from the Australian stick insects E. tiaratum is included where fertilized stock and parthenogenetic individuals from Europe and Australia are compared.
