The resistance of kidney bean phaseolus vulgaris cultivars to pseudomonas syringae pathovar syringae

Glasshouse trials were conducted to test 57 cultivars of kidney-bean (Phaseolus vulgaris) for the resistance of unifoliate and trifoliate leaves to P. syringae pv. syringae. The resistance of pods was also tested. None of the tested cultivars was resistant to leaf infection. Most cultivars were slightly susceptible (47%) or susceptible (47%); the group characterized by a high susceptibility included only 6% of the cultivars. Pods were comparatively more resistant than the leaves. The testing of the cultivars by the infiltration of inoculum onto the unifoliate and trifoliate leaves gave similar results.
