The reversible photo oxidation of allo phycocyanin and phycocyanin
Photooxidation of phycobiliprotein (PBP) by air, O2 and quinone in ethylene glycol solutions at +20.degree. C and -35.degree. C was studied in Aphanizomenon flos aquae. Reversible photooxidation changes at -35.degree. C were observed. The dependence of the reversible photooxidation of PBP on the acid-alkaline conditions of the medium, the nature of the oxidized and concentration of ethylene glycol was investigated. A labile oxidized form appeared under the action of light, which, depending on the conditions, may become transformed into the initial pigment or pass into a stable oxidized form. Photooxidation of PBP may be regarded as at least a 2 step process.
