The role of interferon in anti influenza protection due to a mixture of bacterial ribosomes and a membrane fraction of klebsiella pneumoniae given as aerosol

The significance of interferon in the serum in protecting against influenza virus infection as a model of nonspecific immunity was investigated. Mice were immunized with a mixture of bacterial ribosomes and membrane fractions of K. pneumoniae by aerosol in a variety of test arrangements. The resulting anti-influenzal protection was independent of the concentration of interferon.
