Thermostability of electron transport in the membranes and photosystem ii particles of the thermophilic cyanobacteria synechococcus elongatus

The thermostability of ferricyanide (FCy) and 2,6-dichlorophenolindophenol: (DCIP) reducing reactions by membranes and active oxygen-evolving particles of PS II from thermophlic cyanobacteria was studied. In hypotonic medium, the thermostability of DCIP reduction was higher than that of FCy. The addition of high concentrations of polyethylene glycol-4000 or potassium citrate into incubation medium enhanced the thermostability of FCy reducing reaction. The studies on the temperature dependence of electron transport rates in membranes and O2-evolving particles, in conjunction with the effects of diuron and LDAO on this process, revealed the differences in physico-chemical characteristics of the reduction sites; the data suggest that the contact points of some macromolecular complexes of electron transport chain are the most thermolabile in cyanobacteria.
