Pre-incubation of V. dahliae microsclerotia (MS) from potato stems in a water film for 24 days before treatment with fungicide solutions did not increase the sensitivity of MS to metham. Pre-incubation of MS in natural or sterile loess soil, air-dried or at field capacity, for 24 days showed no difference in the MS sensitivity to metham. Irrigation of loess soil with the fungicide solution to field capacity showed that MS which had been stored before the fungicidal treatment in soil at field capacity were less affected than MS which had been previously stored in air-dry soil.
