Transplanting stress in radiata pine pinus radiata

Transplanting stress in radiata pine pinus radiata

Australian Forest Research 14(1): 67-72

When radiata pine seedlings are lifted, stored and transplanted according to normal practice, the prolonged water stress which occurs is not caused by root loss or damage, nor by desiccation on storage. It is probably mainly due to poor root-to-soil contact on transplanting when air gaps form at the root-soil interface.
