Trematoda fauna of scads of the genus trachurus and its characteristic features

, : Trematoda fauna of scads of the genus trachurus and its characteristic features. Gidrobiologicheskii Zhurnal 18(1): 60-65

Trematoda (21 spp.) were recorded from the Atlantic horse mackerel (T. trachurus trachurus, T. t. capensis, T. picturatus and T. trecae). Of these, Opechona magnibursata sp. nov., is described, 10 spp. are new host records, 5 are new geographic records, and 2 taxonomic revisions are included. A relationship between the species composition of extent and intensity of certain trematode infections and the biological and ecological characteristic features of the hosts was evident. [The 10 new host records were of Ancylocoelium typicum, Opechona bacillaris Podocoyloides chloroscombri, Copiatestis filiferus, Hemiuras communis, H. lukei, Aphanurus stossichi, Lecithaster gibbosus, L. confusus and Tetrochetus sp.].
