Trematode fauna of some mollusks of the crimean peninsula ussr and its changes under the effect of anthropogenic factors

, : Trematode fauna of some mollusks of the crimean peninsula ussr and its changes under the effect of anthropogenic factors. Vestnik Zoologii (5): 90-91

In connection with the introduction into several water bodies of the Crimean Peninsula (Ukrainian SSR, USSR) of mollusks as food species for birds and fish, population dynamics of trematodes infesting the mollusks were studied. The extensiveness of invasion of Radix auricularia and Planorbis planorbis in 1972 and 1975 by 20 spp. of trematodes indicated that the general extensiveness of invasion of R. auricularia increased by 2.5 .times. in 3 yr, while invasion of P. planorbis increased by 3 .times. Cercaria of Diplostomum indistinctum, Apatemon cobitidis, Posthodiplostomum brevicaudatum, Cercaria sp. [1] and metacercaria of Echinostomatidae were found only in the regions of the introduced mollusks. In planning measures for acclimatization and introduction of mollusks as food objects for birds and fish it is essential to consider their possible role as hosts for trematodes. The species R. auricularia, P. planorbis, Lithoglyphus naticoides and all species of the genus Bithynia should be excluded from introduction.
