Trematodes of the family paramphistomidae of somalia 1. paramphistomum bothriophoron

, : Trematodes of the family paramphistomidae of somalia 1. paramphistomum bothriophoron. Rivista di Parassitologia 41(1): 67-72

In Somalia the digenetic trematodes of the ruminants are represented by 1 sp. of Schistosomidae, Schistosoma bovis (Sonsino, 1876), and by species of the Paramphistomidae, Paramphistomum clavula Nasmark, 1937 and P. bothriophoron (Braun, 1892). Observations on the morphological, biological and pathogenic characters of S. bovis were reported by several authors. Only P. clavula Nasmark, 1937 was identified among the rumen trematodes in the Paramphistomidae. The presence of P. bothriophoron among the bovines of Low Uebi Scebeli River (Somalia, eastern Africa) and the fundamental characters of the parasite are discussed.
