Trends in the strengths of transition metal ligand bonds

, : Trends in the strengths of transition metal ligand bonds. Journal of the Singapore National Academy of Science 14: 75-81

Empirical relationships between the bond dissociation energies of transition metal-ligands bonds and other parameters such as ionic radii and ionization enthalpies are demonstrated. These relationships are explained in terms of simple bonding theory and it is suggested that they may be used predictively. The "trans influence", the extent to which mutual interaction between ligands causes bond strengthening is also considered.
