Trh and thyrotropin in the control of thyroid function in the turtle chrysemys picta

, : Trh and thyrotropin in the control of thyroid function in the turtle chrysemys picta. General & Comparative Endocrinology 45(1): 7-11

In adult male C. picta, ovine thyrotropin causes a clear rise in plasma thyroxine (T4), while TRH, given in large doses for several days (50 .mu.g/day, for 8 days), does not. Neither hormone affected plasma corticosterone. The repitilian pituitary-thyroid axis apparently is similar to that of other ectotherms in its lack of response to TRH; endothermy and thyroid stimulation by TRH may be physiologically linked during the course of evolution.
