A new glycoside of the cycloartane series, askenoside A, was isolated from A. taschkendicus roots. It has the structure of 3-[(0-L-arabinopyranosyl) (1 .fwdarw. 2)-O-D-(3'-0-acetyl)-xylopyranoside]-24-R-cycloartane-3.beta.,6.alpha.,16.beta.,24,25-pentaol.
