Trials for chemo prophylaxis of leprosy by dapsone fundamental studies on an artificial dapsone rice

Trials for chemo prophylaxis of leprosy by dapsone fundamental studies on an artificial dapsone rice

Japanese Journal of Leprosy 48(1): 1-6

Artificial rice grains adsorbing DDS [dapsone] and coated with zein-palmitic acid were prepared. The fundamental studies on the artificial rice grains were performed using 14C-DDS and 35S-DDS. The coating prevented the loss of DDS during washing of grains. The metabolism of DDS annexed to rice grains was compared with that of free DDS in rats and man. The results showed the probable absorption of DDS from the stomach wall if it is annexed to rice grains. The distribution of DDS in rat embryos was examined. The suitable usage of the artificial DDS-rice was discussed.
