Tropilaelaps clareae (Laelapidae: Acarina), a parasite of honey bee (Apis mellifera L.) families in south-eastern Asia has been described. The parasite develops on pupated larvae and causes metamorphosis disturbances resulting in abnormal, not fully developed individuals. In the case of an intensive invasion the larvae die. In control of T. clareae mite-killing preparations are applied, used earlier to destroy Varroa jacobsoni.
