Abstract
Twelve-week old tobacco (N. tabacum L. cv 'Little Turkish') leaves were infected with tobacco mosaic virus (TMV). Fine structural examination of TMV-infected leaf tissue revealed appreciable distortion of chloroplasts, mitochondria and plastoglobuli, with partial dissolution of chloroplast envelope, plasma and microbody membranes. TMV apparently freely invades the leaf tissue and rapidly proliferates throughout the cytoplasmic areas of the cells after inoculation.
