Acid phosphatases have a very high activity. In the host-cell, they are localized in the lumen of the endoplasmalemma of the interface. In the endophyte, they are localized in the senescent parts of the hyphae. The activity disappears when the fungal cytoplasm is lysed. Acid phosphatases are involved specifically with fungal lysis and with the necrotrophic phase of the mycorrhiza. The hyphae are apparently digested by enzymes secreted by the host-cell and by autolysis.
