Uptake of nitrogen phosphorus and potassium in 2 cultivars of dwarf wheat grown at different levels of soil moisture and nitrogen

Results of a field experiment conducted at Pantnagar [India] during 1968-69 and 1969-70 showed that the cv. 'Kalyan Sona' removed more N, P and K than 'Sonalika'. Enriching the soil with N raised the contents of N and K but decreased that of P in the grain and straw. The effects of N fertilization were most conspicuous on yield; the uptake of all the nutrients increased appreciably. On the average, a produce of 4451 kg of grain and 7692 kg of straw removed 136 kg N, 21 kg P and 170 kg K/ha of land. The major portion of the total N (63%) and P (77%) absorbed by the plant was in the grain, while that of K (82%) was in the straw.
