Use of the synthetic sexual pheromone of lymantria dispar in tracking down the defoliating plant pest lymantria monacha

Use of the synthetic sexual pheromone of lymantria dispar in tracking down the defoliating plant pest lymantria monacha

Zastita Bilja 29(143-144): 99-104

The availability of attracting substances in tracking down plant pests has stimulated research directed to defoliating insects (Lymantria monacha L.), pests attacking buds and shoots (Rhyacionia buoliana Schiff.) and pests (Ips) that attack the trunks of spruce trees. The pheronome of L. dispar was synthesized in the USA in 1970. The preparation Disparlure gives positive results for the males of L. monacha in West Germany and in Czechoslovakia. In Romania there was testing of the preparation Atealymon. A plastic trap is used, attached to the trunk of trees at a height of 1.8-2 m. A thin layer of glue is applied to the basket and the bait is placed in the center (pheronome on a plastic sponge.) The use of the pheronome traps allowed study of the habits of L. monacha populations in Romania in 1975-1976. This pest was present in various resinous trees. A correlation was established between the size of the population and the number of males captured.
