Utilization of nitrogen by wheat from ammonium 4 and nitrate 3 forms applied as ammonium 4 nitrate 3 selectively labeled with nitrogen 15

Utilization of nitrogen by wheat from ammonium 4 and nitrate 3 forms applied as ammonium 4 nitrate 3 selectively labeled with nitrogen 15

Pakistan Journal of Scientific and Industrial Research 19(3-4): 165-166

The utilization of both NH4-N and NO3-N from NH4NO3 selectively labeled with N15 in wheat and applied at seeding and at tillering stages was determined. Tillering is the critical stage of wheat for the application of N and at this stage N is most efficiently utilized under conditions prevailing in Pakistan. Wheat plants given NO3 contained significantly more N than those given NH4 when watered adequately. Therefore, an NO3 source of N is considered a better carrier for irrigated wheat under Pakistan conditions.
