Variability of needles in polish populations in scotch pine pinus sylvestris

Variability of needles in polish populations in scotch pine pinus sylvestris

Bulletin de la Societe des Amis des Sciences et des Lettres de Poznan Serie D Sciences Biologiques 24: 97-104

The interpopulational and geographical differentiation of 9 populations of Scots pine (P. sylvestris) was studied. The studies were carried out on 12 morphological-anatomical traits of 2-yr-old needles coming from 110 trees. The following methods were applied: multivariate analysis of variance, principal component analysis and discriminant analysis. There is some differentiation among populations from different geographical stands. One of Promno populations was investigated regarding its intrapopulational variability. The individual character of particular trees and a tendency to create intrapopulational groups were stated. Diagnostical value of the applied traits was qualified.
