Variation in hematological and serum electrolyte levels during 1st 20 bouts of experimental surra in camels

Variation in hematological and serum electrolyte levels during 1st 20 bouts of experimental surra in camels

Indian Journal of Animal Sciences 51(7): 724-729

Trypanosoma evansi infection was experimentally established in camels. The values of studied parameters 20 at the 20th bout, observed after 12 mo. of infection, showed 56.0% reduction of Hb, 66.2% of packed-cell volume, 27.0% of serum Ca, 23.5% of serum Chl, 58.1% of serum Na and 54.1% of serum K; reticulocytes, total eosinophils and serum Pi increased to the extent of 860, 110.2 and 25.7%, respectively. Ca levels fluctuated reciprocally with bouts of parasitic and non-parasitic phases.
