Virological and epidemiological studies on encephalitis in chiang mai area thailand in 1982 6. antibody survey on animals

Tropical Medicine 25(4): 183-188

Antibody prevalence against Japanese encephalitis (JE) virus among various vertebrates was measured by the hemagglutination-inhibition (HI) test. Swine, horses, mules, sheep and dogs possessed anti-JE antibodies at high rates. Antibody prevalence among monkeys, ducks and sparrows was low and anti-JE antibodies were detected in chickens or lizards. Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) on swine sera revealed that almost 1/3 of the swine population appeared to have been recently infected with JE virus.
