Weed growth establishment and yield of an upland rice variety under 3 tillage systems and 4 seeding rates

Tillage systems and seeding rates significantly influenced seedling establishment and yield of UPL-Ri 5. Higher yields were obtained under conventional tillage due to higher seedling establishment. Seeding at 100 kg seeds/ha gave the highest grain yield under all tillage systems. Pre-emergence application of butachlor at the rate of 2 kg a.i.[active ingredient]/ha was toxic to rice seedlings. Butachlor application resulted in poor seedling establishment and lower grain yield. Rice tolerated this herbicide at the rate of 1 kg a.i./ha without significant reduction in establishment and growth.
