A case of carotid sinus syndrome secondary to hypopharyngeal carcinoma and left neck nodes metastasis

A case of carotid sinus syndrome secondary to hypopharyngeal carcinoma and left neck nodes metastasis

Jibi Inkoka Tokeibu Geka 61(6): 441-444

A 72-year-old man had been treated by irradiation to the neck and left radical neck dissection. One year after the surgery, he fell into syncope when the left carotid bifurcation was palpated. The syncope was reproducible and ECG revealed cardiac arrest during the palpation. He was diagnosed as hypersensitivity of the carotid body which was related to the arteriosclerosis and additional insults to the carotid body be irradiation and neck dissection.
