A case of minocycline induced eosinophilic pneumonia

A case of minocycline induced eosinophilic pneumonia

Japanese Journal of Chest Diseases 49(6): 516-520

A 40 year-old woman had been treated with Minocycline (MINO) because of common cold. On the 11th day of the administratim of MINO, she developed dyspnea, productive cough and 40.degree. C fever. Eosinophilia (3,105/.mu.l) was found in the peripheral blood and the chest X-ray film revealed photographic negative of butterfly shadow. Transbronchial lung biopsy was performed and the microscopic examination of the specimen indicated eosinophilic pneumonia. Intracutaneous test with MINO was negative and the lymphcytes stimulation test by MINO was positive. The participation of the type IV allergic reaction was presumed in this case.
