Circadian fluctuations of mitoses in the midgut epithelium of P. americana were studied. Fifty-four adult insects, exposed to light between 6 am to 6 pm, were observed in the experiment. The data showed a two-phase rhythm of mitoses with acrophase at 1pm. Based on chronobiological analysis a conclusion was drawn that cells, when exposed to light, enter mitosis with more synchroneity.
