These studies were undertaken to test the effect of the capsular polysaccharide of Klebsiella-pneumoniae (CPS) K8 on the antibody response against tetanus toxoid vaccine. The antigenicity of preparation containing CPS was assessed by the neutralizing antibody production test and by the active guinea pig protection test. The results of both tests showed that the CPS K8 induced a higher immune response than the one induced by the plain vaccine. The "in vivo" highest response was induced by the vaccine containing aluminum hydroxide. These results indicate the usefulness of the CPS which enhances active immunity against tetanus toxoid in guinea pigs.
