Aestival diel vertical migration of daphnia longispina o.f. mueller at three different stations in lake aydat an escape response to predation

Annales des Sciences Naturelles Zoologie et Biologie Animale 13(1): 37-46

The vertical migration of Daphnia longispina was studied in relation to the feeding activity of adult roach (Rutilus rutilus) and the presence of Chaoborus flavicans larvae during a diel cycle on 20-21 July 1988. Zooplankton was collected at intervals of 3 hours at three different stations situated along a transect from the littoral to the pelagic area. Migrations of the different size classes of D. longispina were studied separately. R. rutilus were collected at intervals of 4 hours in the shallow station; in total, gut content of 253 fish (size 98-240 mm) were analyzed.
