Public health complaints of swimmers in summer months suggested to carry out microbiological analysis of water from five major swimmining pools in Pune City. The microbial count was very high in all the swimming pools due to large number of swimmers, small size of pool, inadequate concentration of chlorine and inproper maintenance, etc. Importance of swimming is increasing gradually and hence needs, attention by public health authorities and experts in the fields, to formulate Indian norms of water from swimming pools in urban areas.
