Band application of basal fertilizer at the same time with machine transplanting in paddy field was tested to investigate the effect of time of nitrogen(N) application at different panicle initiation stages; 15, 25 and 35 days before heading. Variety tested was Hwasenogbyeo, Japonica group variety. Internode length of the 4th and 5th internodes at band application of fertilizer was longer than that at whole layer application, and the earlier the time of N application at panicle initiation stage, the longer the length of the internodes. Spikelet number per panicle at band application was lower than that at whole layer application. Within the same band application, the earlier the time of N application at panicle initiation, the higher the spikelet number per panicle. Percent of ripened grain was low at the earlier time of N application. Within the same band application, grain yield was high at the later time of N application in 50% of total N as basal and was high at the earlier time of N application in 40% of the N.
