6-Methylhept-5-en-2-one, isolated from Iridomyrmex purpureus fed with N,N-dibenzylethylenediamine-di-DL-[2-14C]mevalonate, has been shown to contain radiolabel. The distribution of label, as determined by chemical degradation, supports the hypothesis that the compound is a degraded terpenoid arising via the isoprenoid pathway.
