Chemical control of onion downy mildew caused by peronospora destructor berk

Seed treatment with different fungicide controlled downy mildew of onion. Metalaxyl was effective fungicide at 2 gm/kg of seed in reducing disease severity and correspondingly increased the yield. Next test was dry heat at 40.degree. C for 8 hours followed by wet sulphur + zinthane at 2 gms/kg of seed. Metalaxyl caused no adverse effect on the germination of bulb vigour. The foliar spray at 0.1% of the chemical was applied as soon as the disease was noticed in the control plots. This spraying also controlled the disease significantly.
