Clinical evaluation of one tenth of one percent clobetasone butyrate eye drops on anterior ocular inflammation double blind clinical trial versus fluorometholone eye drops

Clinical evaluation of one tenth of one percent clobetasone butyrate eye drops on anterior ocular inflammation double blind clinical trial versus fluorometholone eye drops

Folia Ophthalmologica Japonica 41(9): 1722-1731

The efficacy and safety of 0.1% clobetasone butyrate (CB) eye drops were assessed by double-blind trial, using 0.1% fluorometholone (FM) eye drops as control, in patients with anterior ocular inflammatory diseases at 14 medical institutes. Results were as follows. Efficacy evaluation by the doctors in charge revealed no significant difference between the CB and FM groups. The effectiveness rate was 77.0% in the CB group and 76.3% in the FM group. However, the remarkably effective rate was slightly higher in the CB group (16.4%) than in the FM group (6.8%). Of clinical symptoms, keratin precipitates tended to be alleviated earlier in the CB group than in the FM group. A slight side effect, irritation (smarting) at instillation, was observed in one patient of the FM group.
