Abstract
A comparative analysis of potato productivity in the Komi ASSR and in Baltic Republics has been carried out by using the methods of model yields and dynamic modeling. In has been shown that the productivity is determined by that as far agricultural meteorological factors make possible to use photosynthetically active radiation for rapid development of the leaf surface area and its photosynthetic activity. In the Baltic region the leading limiting factor has not been revealed, whereas in the Komi ASSR the factor is the duration of the vegetative period. For the Komi republic the relationship between the actually possible yields and the time period from the 1st of May to that of shoot emergence may be used for yield forcasts (r = 0.82, p = 0.99): each day of delay in the onset of photosynthetic functioning leads to a 3-4% loss of potato yield. In the Baltic region this loss is 0.8-1.3%. It is concluded that findings on photosynthesis, respiration, and growth of individual plants and their organs, when included in a single system within the frame of the dynamic model of productivity and yield formation, may be used at the cenotic level for solving problems of highly productive plant growing.
